Donald Sultan American, b. 1951

Born 1951, Asheville, North Carolina; lives in New York City.

Donald Sultan works in painting, printmaking, and sculpture. His first solo exhibition was held in 1977. Sultan's works combine geometric and organic forms. He describes his work as "heavy structure, holding fragile meaning" with the ability to "turn you off and turn you on at the same time."

Donald Sultan's work is found in numerous collections including the Art Institute of Chicago, the Museum of Modern Art, New York, the Guggenheim Museum, New York, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and the Tate Modern, London, among others.

Sultan’s exhibitions at Serge Sorokko Gallery include A Decade of Paintings and Drawings (2014), Four Decades of Painting (2020), and the group exhibition Made in New York with Hunt Slonem and Ross Bleckner (2023).
