WOLFGANG TILLMANS

Born 1968; Remscheid, Germany; lives and works in Berlin and London.

German artist Wolfgang Tillmans is one of the most influential contemporary photographers active today. He spent the early part of his career in London after graduating from the Bournemouth and Poole College of Art and Design. Since the early 1990s, his work has been exhibited in important institutions all over the globe. Tillmans' work takes on a variety of subjects such as still lifes, landscapes, and provocative portraits of friends. His casual, yet hauntingly beautiful documentary style helped him win the prestigious Turner Prize in 2000 and positioned him as a very important player in the contemporary art world.

Tillmans’ work is held in the permanent collections of the Tate Britain, London; the Guggenheim Museum, New York; the Museum of Modern Art, New York; Museum Ludwig, Cologne; and the Busch-Reisinger Museum, Cambridge, Massachusetts, among many others.
