Jim Marshall

The Serge Sorokko Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibition of photographs by Rock & Roll Photographer, Jim Marshall, in his first exhibition at the Serge Sorokko Gallery. This exhibition coincides with his newest publication, "Not Fade Away" (Bullfinch Press) available at the gallery.

Jim Marshall is the ultimate Rock & Roll Photographer - he was shooting during San Francisco's acid rock heyday and has not stopped shooting since. His outsized personality and penchant for fast living have given him a special rapport with musicians over the years - from the early 1960's to the present - enabling him to get the candid, revealing shots no one else has ever attempted.

"From the dressing room to the stage, Jim Marshall is unquestionably the godfather of Rock & Roll Photography. His discerning eye and his ability to capture emotion give us the perfect window into the netherworld of Rock & Roll music." - Mark Seliger, Chief Photographer, Rolling Stone.

"Not Fade Away" collects the best of Marshall's photography for the first time, and gives us an electrifying visual history of the Rock & Roll era that is unprecedented in its intimacy and impact. The duotone photographs include virtually every artist in the rock pantheon, from Muddy Waters to Janis Joplin, the Rolling Stones and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
"Not Fade Away," is scheduled to tour Los Angeles, New Orleans, London and Tokyo.
