Cindy Tower

Cindy Tower has spent the past eighteen years developing an art form that would later become known as "installation art." Upon receiving her B.F.A. at Cornell University in 1980, Tower set out to carve out a cutting-edge career, by first exhibiting in the Bronx at Fashion Moda Gallery with Haim Steinbach. Tower continued to show at such alternative venues as White Columns, FourWalls, Brooklyn, and Real Art Ways CT. Throughout the nineties, Tower began attracting more blue-chip galleries such as Grace Borgenicht, Holly Solomon, and David Zwirner, and her work began to appear in publications such as The New York Times, Art in America, World Art, Arts Magazine, and Art & Auction.

As in all of her installations, Tower incorporates the process of art and her personal life. In her current installation at the Serge Sorokko Gallery, Tower reflects on the insanity of Americana with its Wild West roots, its obsessive and compulsive personality, its elitism, and its cerebral and anorexic mind and body. Tower will convert the entire gallery into a fuselage of big painted polka-dots, assemblages and paintings, all insidiously referring to life affirming effervescence marked by chance and circumstance.
